CHEYENNE, Wyo & BOSTON – Green House Data, a leading provider of digital transformation consulting and managed IT services, today announced that Clubessential, a leading provider of club operations software, is leveraging its hybrid cloud solution to meet growing business needs and expectations of guests to better cater to the growth customer list.
Clubessential's unified suite of software modules helps improve, automate and facilitate the operations of over 1,300 golf clubs, country clubs, yacht clubs, sports clubs and resorts that collectively serve more than two million members worldwide. Clubessential solutions take care of day-to-day business needs including public websites, accounting, point of sale, customer relationship management and reservations. With Club Essential Solutions, club staff can focus on what matters most: delivering great guest experiences.
After a period of significant growth, both organically and through strategic acquisition, Clubessential needed to modernize an inherited legacy IT environment that is used to host front and back end web applications as well as PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliant payment applications. This legacy infrastructure was in a less than ideal colocated environment and required significant upgrades, including virtualization, consolidation and business continuity measures.
After examining numerous options, Clubessential determined that a hybrid cloud solution with Green House Data was an ideal solution for their needs. The Green House Data team worked closely with Clubessential to design, test and roll out redundant VMware virtual servers coupled with a custom private cloud with colocalized hardware and dedicated SSDs for high I / O performance.
"The private cloud data provided by Green House Data was able to give us the high performance we needed for our data layer," said Jason House, chief technology officer, Clubessential. "We were able to put the critical hardware that was performance sensitive in the private cloud and then all of the dynamic web servers and things that we could grow and shrink based on traffic in the public cloud."
Ultimately, nearly 40 physical Windows and SQL servers were consolidated into 15 virtual servers with minimal to no downtime, which helped modernize the environment while dramatically reducing the requirements and costs of licensing compliance.
To evaluate the impact of the solution on the client experience, Clubessential examined the key performance metric: SQL Server waits, or the time a SQL Server waits on CPU, RAM, or hard drive to deliver the required data to the web server. After the migration, Club Essentials SQL Server latency decreased between 40 and 50 percent.
"We have been actively measuring database performance before and after the migration as this is what customers notice about problems," said House. "The comparison tables were day and night."
Aside from these advantages, the solution enables remote management of the cloud environment via the VMware layer, with the physical hardware being managed by Green House Data employees on site in Cheyenne. As Club Essential continues to grow, they have a service provider who can scale alongside them.
